Alignment is a calculation, and most field guides never perform one. This book does: offset from a rim reading, angularity from a face reading over the diameter it was taken on, and shim thickness projected to each foot distance, with the sign conventions that decide whether the shim goes in or comes out.

It also treats the two things that decide whether an alignment holds: the pre-checks, and the base it is being held on.
